| CMP 160 | VARIATIONS on The Last Rose of Summer by Thomas Chipp (1817) | £6.50 (now available) |
| for Piano and Guitar. Thomas Chipp (1793 - 1870) was a celebrated harpist in London and wrote these Variations originally for the harp. This edition is a transcription by Ian Gammie, stylistically following the vogue for piano and guitar duets in the early 19th century - a combination that worked extremely well until the later development of the piano dwarfed the sound of the guitar. If a modern piano is used, the player should be alert to the need to achieve this balance between the instruments. The movements are: 1) - Introduction & Air (Theme) 2) - Andante Espressivo 3) - Simplice 4) - Bolero 5) - Adagio Espressivo 6) - Andante 7) - Con Moto 8) - Con animato (Finale) The guitar has extended solo passages in the Bolero and the Adagio Espressivo, and shares thematic material in other movements in addition to the accompagnato passages. Suitable for players of Grade 6 - 7 standard. The whole work lasts approximately 11 minutes.
